It’s a pretty fascinating tool…pounds of meat consumed per capita per year, access to grocery stores, WIC redemptions (pictured), and farmer’s markets are available down to the county level. We spent a good chunk of the evening playing around with it. It’s a good lead-in to Blog for Food month

Flash Earth pulls imagery from various online sources into one frame, so you can compare and contrast sites over time.

Here’s the farm using Google’s data (2005); if you click on the left side for Microsoft VE (either one), you’ll see the farm from sometime before we bought it (2002). Yahoo! maps will bring another image from sometime in the past, pre-occupancy (and note the hair on the lens to the north). Ask.com will give what I think is a June 2005 view…pre seasonal mowing, and pre scotch broom removal of that year.

Fun stuff! Now back to tree planting.
