<p>It&#8217;s a pretty fascinating tool&#8230;pounds of meat consumed per capita per year, access to grocery stores, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WIC">WIC</a> redemptions (pictured), and <a href="http://oregonfarmersmarkets.org/">farmer&#8217;s markets</a> are available down to the county level.  We spent a good chunk of the evening playing around with it.  It&#8217;s a good lead-in to <a href="http://www.mossbackfarm.com/2009/02/blog-for-food-month/">Blog for Food month</a></p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>In the vein of <a href="http://www.mossbackfarm.com/archive/000179.html">farm GIS</a> blending with <a href="http://www.mossbackfarm.com/archive/000132.html">cool online map services</a>, a new hybrid application has been developed.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.flashearth.com/">Flash Earth</a> pulls imagery from various online sources into one frame, so you can compare and contrast sites over time.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.flashearth.com/?lat=45.342145&#038;lon=-123.312433&#038;z=17.3&#038;r=0&#038;src=ggl">Here&#8217;s the farm</a> using Google&#8217;s data (2005);  if you click on the left side for Microsoft VE (either one), you&#8217;ll see the farm from sometime before we bought it (2002).  Yahoo! maps will bring another image from sometime in the past, pre-occupancy (and note the hair on the lens to the north).  Ask.com will give what I think is a June 2005 view&#8230;pre seasonal mowing, and pre scotch broom removal of that year.</p>
<p>Fun stuff!  Now back to tree planting.</p>
